My Fitness Pal! (Review)



My Fitness Pal is a community based website which allows dieters to track their daily calories and progress online or via their mobile device. The community is free to join and to use without a credit card. The database includes more than 500,000 foods which can be typed in or scanned in via a mobile device. The idea behind communities such as My Fitness Pal is based upon providing support through the use of integrated tools and peer communication. Of course active communities tend to be more viable than inactive communities.






Advantages

  • The service is free.
  • Tracking calories is proven to increase weight loss.
  • Peer based support could help some dieters stay on track.

Disadvantages

  • Tracking calories online requires time and dedication.
  • Portion sizes are determined by the dieter, which could flaw total calories consumed.
  • Dieters still need to make good food choices and exercise.
