Observed on the last Monday of May. Memorial Day was formally known as Decoration Day and commemorates all women and men, who have sacrificed their lives in military service for the United States. Frequently people visit cemeteries and memorials on Memorial Day and it is traditional seen as the start of the summer season. Over the years people have celebrated the holiday less for it's purpose and more for it's get together time with friends and family.
